1 dead, 7 hurt in van-bus collision in Ilocos Norte
LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — One man died while seven more people were injured following a collision between a van and a minibus on a highway near the view deck of the famed Bangui windmills in Ilocos Norte province on Maundy Thursday, police said.
Investigators identified the fatality as Edgar Paguio, 45, who was among the passengers of the Mitsubishi L300 van.
He was declared dead on arrival when brought to Bangui District Hospital.
Injured were the 19-year-old van driver and his passengers aged 13 to 56.
Bangui police chief Maj. Ramil Llarenas said the victims were from Makati City and were heading to Pagudpud town for a vacation this Holy Week when the van skidded off the road and swerved to its left side, encroaching on the opposite lane before colliding with an oncoming minibus.
