3 killed in car crash in Ilocos Norte

BAGUIO CITY—Three people died in a car crash after the driver lost control of his vehicle while traveling in Pasuquin town in Ilocos Norte province on Saturday, Nov. 19, according to a police report Sunday, Nov. 20.

Authorities identified the victims as Dese Laureta, 65; Irish Clemente, 14; and James Buted, 63. All of them were residents of Davila village in Pasuquin.

The report said that at around 11:30 a.m., a sports utility vehicle being driven by an ophthalmologist was traveling northbound when he overtook a vehicle traveling ahead on the road’s right outer lane.

Aside from Laureta and Clemente, the doctor’s vehicle also slammed Buted, who was also traveling up north while driving a tricycle, the police said.

The SUV driver is an ophthalmologist from San Juan, Metro Manila, and presently residing in Callaguip village in Batac City, the police said.

Clemente was declared dead on the spot by the responding medical team, while Laureta and Buted died while being treated at the Governor Roque B. Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital in the capital city of Laoag.

The SUV driver is currently under the custody of Pasuquin police station as charges for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide under the Revised Penal Code are being prepared against him, police added.
