2 Dumagats dead, 8 hurt as jeepney falls off Quezon cliff

LUCENA CITY —  Two Dumagat tribesmen from Sierra Madre was killed, while eight others were injured Sunday after their vehicle fell into a 10-meter ravine in Infanta town in Quezon province.

The Quezon police reported Monday that a jeepney driven by alias “Loren,” 45, a male American religious pastor, was traversing the Marikina-Rizal-Laguna-Quezon (Marilaque) Highway in Barangay Magsaysay around 3:30 p.m., when the vehicle suddenly lost its brakes and fell off a cliff on the side of the road.

Two of the passengers, Adelina Peñamante and Adrian Mercado, died on the spot. The report did not provide further information on the fatalities.

The driver and the other passengers, including Nelvin Paul Maldaner, 48, a male Canadian religious pastor, suffered injuries. Rescuers brought them to Claro M. Recto District Hospital in the town proper for treatment.

Police said the victims were on their way to General Nakar town for a religious service when the accident happened. INQ
