MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLITT) of Japan signed a memorandum of cooperation on Friday for tourism development between the two countries.

According to Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco, the agreement is expected to strengthen tourism opportunities with one of the country’s top source markets.

“The Philippines’ bilateral relations with Japan is strengthened as we anticipate that this will exponentially expand tourism opportunities with the Japanese, which is one of our top source markets,” Frasco said.

The memorandum will encourage mutual visits from tourists from both countries, as well as the tourism industry growth for both countries. A team of officials from the DOT and the MLITT will also oversee the implementation of the memorandum, which will run for five years and can be renewed.
