LUCENA CITY — A 76-year-old man died and three others were injured Tuesday when a wayward cargo truck rammed two residential houses in Tagkawayan, Quezon.
The Quezon police said in a report on Wednesday, Oct. 25, that the Manila-bound truck loaded with watermelons was negotiating a descending section of the Quirino Highway in Barangay San Francisco around 8 p.m., when driver Virjulito Mirasol lost control of the vehicle due to faulty brakes.
The wayward truck slammed into a house on the roadside and hit house owner Benito Recaña, 76. The victim died on the spot due to grave injuries.
The vehicle subsequently fell on the roadside 20 meters deep and rammed into another house.
The driver, his helper Joffrey Jacob, 26, and a house occupant Liova Domingo, 43, suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The watermelons were left secured inside the truck.
The police are conducting further investigation.
