Carcel edges Calderon in Kartzone Superkart

Ace karter Juan Antonio “Tonyo” Carcel showed his dominant form as he swept all the heats en route to capturing the crown in the KT100 expert and overall during the second leg of the Kartzone Superkart Series last Saturday at the Kartzone race track in brgy. Panagdait, Mabolo.

The Paref-Springdale karting star  took center stage as he won the final heat in runaway fashion, beating another fancied star in Jette Calderon of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu by 2.235 seconds. Carcel finished the race in 11 minutes and 25.721 seconds.

Making the feat even more impressive was the fact that Carcel also got the fastest lap time with 27.130 seconds, a personal best for the youngster.

In third place was JT Gullas, who finished 14.953 seconds away from Carcel.

The race was nip-and-tuck between Carcel and Calderon until the 10th lap when the former kicked it into high gear and started to clock in at 27 seconds per lap for the final 10 laps of the 25-lap race, which proved to be enough for the coveted victory.

Carcel was able to sweep all the races as he also won the qualifying heat and Heat 1 over first leg winner Joseph Rojo before winning Heat 2 and the final heat over Calderon.

Vince Rojo won over Kali Carcel in the KT100 Novice while Panpan Reroma defeated Regan King for the title in the KT100 Masters.
