DESPITE bad ball passing, the University of San Jose Recoletos-manned Cebu Football Association (CFA) still posted a crushing, 5-0 win over the Leyte Football Association (LFA) yesterday in their second meeting of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Suzuki Cup U23 at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

The CFA team was coached by assistant coach Rommel Ramirez as head coach Joselito Bono left with the Central Visayas team for Pangasinan in preparation for the Palarong Pambansa.

The CFA team finally won at home after bowing to the Iloilo Football Association and the Negros Occidental Football Association in their previous home games.

Rikko de Guzman scored the first goal in the 11th minute followed by the 14th-minute goal by Junifer Ebero.

CFA failed to complete two more attempts until Agapito Bacla-an scored back-to-back goals in the 36th and 38th minutes to give CFA a 4-0 going into halftime.

LFA started to pick up their game in the second half with counter attacks while CFA’s ball passing got slightly better.

LFA’s goalkeeper was once again kept busy with more attempts from CFA, however, he was able to successfully ward them off before Junjun Pintuan capped CFA’s win with a goal.

The victory gave CFA seven points equivalent to a win-draw-loss record of 2-1-2 while winless LFA is left at the cellar.

CFA will travel to Iloilo and Bacolod on the first week of May for their 6th and 7th games.  /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
