LUCENA CITY — A drunk motorcycle rider died early Sunday after his vehicle crashed into a concrete wall in Tanauan City in Batangas province.
The Batangas police reported that Jessie Cañete was driving his motorcycle with Kian Mercado as a back-rider in Barangay (village) Natatas past 12 a.m.
Suddenly, Cañete lost control of the vehicle and subsequently crashed into a concrete wall on the roadside.

Both riders sustained injuries and were rushed to Laurel District Hospital in the city but Cañete was declared dead on arrival.
The report said both riders were under the influence of liquor when the accident happened.

The police are conducting further investigation.
The police did not say if the riders were wearing crash helmets for protection as mandated under the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.
