MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Jenny (international name: Koinu) left the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Friday afternoon, the state weather bureau reported.
The typhoon further weakened with maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph., according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Jenny will continue to move westward slowly over the Taiwan Strait and the coastal waters of southeastern China, Pagasa added.
Signal No. 1 is still in effect over the rest of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, the northern portion of Apayao, the northwestern portion of Cagayan , and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte.
Jenny will also continue to enhance the southwest monsoon or “habagat”, which will trigger rains in Metro Manila, the southern portion of Aurora, Romblon, parts of the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) region. Bataan, and the Bicol region.
By Sunday, Jenny may weaken into a tropical depression, Pagasa said.
