Cops save 5-year-old boy after man holds him hostage in Pasig

MANILA, Philippines — A five-year-old boy was rescued from his hostage-taker who surrendered to authorities after a peaceful negotiation early morning Thursday, according to police.

In a report, Pasig City Police Station (CPS) opted not to disclose the suspect’s name but revealed his alias as Luigie, a 34-year-old resident of Barangay Pinagbuhatan.

According to Pasig CPS, its Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT) team received a report of an ongoing hostage-taking along Batok Street, Eusebio Avenue, around 3 a.m.

The suspect was initially accused of being a thief and was chased by residents within the area before he entered the victim’s home and took him hostage.

Pasig police’s SWAT team immediately responded within the area and negotiated with the suspect, resulting in his voluntary surrender.

Luigie is currently under Pasig CPS’ custody, and confiscated from him was a 7.5-inch-long bread knife he used to commit the crime.

Police said it is already preparing appropriate charges against the suspect.
