Heavy rains and strong winds will prevail over parts of Luzon on Tuesday as Typhoon Jenny (international name: Koinu) moves closer to the Philippine landmass, the state weather bureau said.

In a weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Jenny was last seen at 350 kilometers (km) east of Basco, Batanes, carrying wind speeds of 165 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of 205 kph.

PH, US begin 2-week joint naval exercises

The Philippines and the United States began two weeks of joint naval exercises with partner countries on Monday, in a show of a united front at a time of rising tensions in the South China Sea.

Nearly 2,000 personnel are taking part in the annual “Sama-Sama” (together) Exercise, which will include participants from Australia, Canada, Japan, United Kingdom, France, New Zealand and Indonesia.

Edward Hagedorn, 76

Palawan 3rd District Rep. Edward Hagedorn died on Tuesday morning, according to an announcement on his official social media page. He was 76.

No other details about his passing were shared on Hagedorn’s official Facebook page except that the politician “died peacefully.”
