Unilab to supply medicines to hospitals in the province

TOWNSFOLK in the different municipalities and cities of Cebu can avail of affordable medicine in district hospitals of the province.

United Laboratories Inc. (Unilab) and the Cebu provincial government signed a consignment agreement for Unilab to stock medicines in the provincial hospitals for which the Capitol would only pay for consumed items.

Prices of the consigned goods will be also lower than the the market selling price.

The Capitol also signed a MOA with PhilHealth to cover 190,000 families in the province extending to those in the informal sector such as habal-habal drivers and trisikad drivers.

The Capitol paid the P1,800 insurance premium for beneficiaries.

The signing was attended by the town and city mayors of the province and PhilHealth CEO Dr. Eduardo Banzon with Vice Governor Agnes Magpale and members of the Provincial Board (PB).

Governor Garcia said this was a “giant stride” in improving health care services in the province.

“We will be assured that good-quality drugs will be provided,” she said.

In her second term, the Capitol started paying for the Philhealth coverage of indigents.

In 2009, at least 60,000 families were covered.
