TACLOBAN CITY — At least 33 families, composed of 345 persons, lost their homes in a fire on Monday, Sept. 11, in Barangay 43, Quarry District in this city.
Arson investigators have yet to determine the cause of the blaze that destroyed at least 29 houses.
The victims are temporarily housed at the City Engineering Office (CEO).
One of them was Jay Alcosebe, 21, a third year college student from Basey town, Samar.
He said he was at school when the fire broke out at 4:37 p.m.
“I was not able to save anything, including my allowance for the week,” he said.
The city government, through the orders of Mayor Alfred Romualdez, has extended assistance to the victims.
They also received food packs and kitchen and personal hygiene kits from the city government which also provided modular tents at the CEO.
The City Fire Office reported that the fire started at a house owned by Catalina Kahano.
No one was injured.
Damage was pegged at over P750,000.
