MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday urged Filipino consumers to report sellers who violate the newly mandated rice caps.
Marcos, also the agriculture secretary, issued Executive Order No. 39 (EO), setting the price cap for rice at P41 per kilo for regular milled rice and P45 per kilo for well-milled rice for the whole country.
“I would encourage everyone who finds that someone, or a retailer is selling, at above the price ceiling, i-report po ninyo. Report niyo sa pulis, i-report niyo sa DA (Department of Agriculture) doon sa lugar ninyo, i-report niyo sa local government para matingnan namin at tiyakin na hindi lalampas sa ating presyo na ating linagay,” said Marcos in an ambush interview in Palawan.
(I would encourage everyone who finds someone or a retailer selling above the price ceiling to report them. Report them to the police, report them to the DA in your area, and report them to the local government to check and verify that rice is not being sold beyond the set price.)
Besides the DA, other agencies monitoring and ensuring that rice prices remain within the price cap include the Department of Interior and Local Government, the Department of Trade and Industry, and the Department of Justice.
“Because all of those agencies already have regular inspections when it comes to other issues, they will now apply the price ceilings that I have ordered in the EO I signed yesterday so that, to make sure the prices stay within the limits we have prescribed,” explained Marcos.
