MANILA, Philippines — The period for the filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs) in the 2023 barangay and sangguniang kabataan elections (BSKE) has once again been extended to Sept. 4 in Metro Manila and Abra, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Thursday.
Meanwhile, the initial extension to Sept. 3 was retained in Ilocos Norte.
According to the Comelec in an advisory released late Thursday night, the filing of the COCs was extended due to the suspension of government work in the said areas caused by inclement weather.
With this, Comelec announced that the filing of COCs will resume on Sept. 2 in Metro Manila and Sept. 1 in Abra and Ilocos Norte.
The Comelec already suspended the filing of COCs in Metro Manila on Thursday, also announcing the initial dates for the extension of COC filing.
But Malacañang in a memorandum suspended both government work and classes in all levels in Metro Manila on Friday, prompting Comelec to adjust again the schedule for the filing of COCs.
