Comelec: COC filing for 2023 BSKE in Metro Manila, Goring-hit areas extended until Sept 3
MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has extended the filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) in Metro Manila, and in areas hit by Super Typhoon Goring (international name: Seola) until September 3.
September 3 falls on a Sunday and the filing and receiving of the COCs for the BSKE 2023 would be open until 5:00 p.m., the poll body noted.
“We will extend the filing of COCs in the NCR, including in the northern provinces affected by the typhoon,” Comelec chair George Garcia told reporters through Viber on Thursday.
Later, however, Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said: “Due to the suspension of Government Work on account of inclement weather, the Filing (and reception) of Certificates of Candidacy in the National Capital Region, and the Provinces of Abra and Ilocos Norte, is extended until 5:00 p.m. of September 3, 2023, Sunday.”
This announcement came immediately after Comelec suspended all of its operations in Metro Manila as heavy rains persisted in the region due to a typhoon-enhanced southwest monsoon, locally termed habagat.
