MANILA, Philippines–A magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck near Surallah in South Cotabato at 3:28 p.m. on Saturday, state seismologists said.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the tectonic quake’s epicenter was located 11 kilometers south-west of Surallah. It had a depth of focus of 8 kilometers.
As for the reported intensities, areas in Banga and Tampakan in South Cotabato, along with the City of General Santos, experienced Intensity II.
Meanwhile, Kiamba and Maitum in Sarangani, and Polomolok in South Cotabato registered Intensity I.
The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
