MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has urged Davaoeños to foster traditional knowledge and make the voices of indigenous people heard.

His call comes as Davao celebrates Kadayawan Festival on Wednesday.

“Take to heart that this spectacle is more than just a feast for the senses. It is a call to immerse ourselves in the path of progress and embrace our roots that define our collective identity,” Marcos said in a statement.

“By doing so, we can truly foster our traditional knowledge and strengthen the voices of our indigenous brothers and sisters,” he added.

According to Marcos, Davao city’s rich biodiversity shows the connection between nature and people.

He emphasized the need to sustain both cultural and environmental legacies for future generations.

Kadayawan Festival in Davao is a colorful event where indigenous people (IP) give thanks to their supreme being, Manama.
