Peace negotiators have P50-M cash advances

State auditors want the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (Opapru) to file charges against former and current agency employees and officials over unliquidated cash advances amounting to around P50 million. The Commission on Audit (COA) said in its annual audit that the Opapru has a total of P50.6 million worth of dormant unliquidated cash advances as of Dec. 31, 2022. Based on the COA’s examinations, cash advances of Opapru amounting to P12 million has “aged” ranging more than 30 days to more than five years, remaining unliquidated as of Dec. 31, 2022. There were “other receivables” which amounted to P38.6 million. This certain account, according to the COA, was used to “reclassify unliquidated cash advances of former employees. —DEMPSEY REYES
