MMDA: 138 metric tons of garbage collected in Manila Bay from July 1 to Aug 5

MANILA, Philippines — Around 138 metric tons of garbage were collected during the cleanup operations in Manila Bay from July 1 to August 5, said the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Thursday.
According to the MMDA in a statement, the total collected included garbage washed to the shores of Manila Bay due to the heavy rain brought by several typhoons and the effect of the southwest monsoon in recent weeks.
The agency then reminded the public to be responsible by throwing trash in proper bins and also practice recycling trash to avoid an accumulation of garbage.
“Iwasan ang pagtatapon kung saan-saan na maaaring mapunta sa Manila Bay,” the MMDA said.
(Avoid dumping garbage anywhere that could end up in Manila Bay.)
To recall, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recently suspended Manila Bay reclamation projects — retaining just one — pending a government review.
