2 riders dead in motorcycle-van collision in Quezon
LUCENA CITY — Two motorcycle riders died early Thursday after their vehicle was hit by a passenger van along the Maharlika Highway in Calauag town in Quezon province.
The Quezon police said in a report that Bobette Adoni, 35, was driving his motorcycle with Aldy Sollestre as a back-rider when they were hit around 1:20 a.m. by a commuter van driven by Robert Marivalles in the highway in Barangay Sumulong.
The two riders suffered severe injuries and died while being taken to a hospital in the locality.
Investigators said the van carrying nine passengers overtook another vehicle and occupied the opposite lane, which resulted in the collision.
Police Staff Sergeant Dennis Dulay, the case investigator, said Marivalles escaped after the collision.

The victims were the 10th fatality in motorcycle-related accidents in Quezon since July 29.
The report stated that both riders were wearing crash helmets for protection as mandated under the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.
On Wednesday, Aug. 9, at least six motorcyclists were involved in separate road mishaps, according to reports from Quezon provincial police office.
