More traffic enforcers, MRT-3 trains amid Edsa repairs — MMDA

MANILA, Philippines — More traffic enforcers will be deployed on Edsa and more Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) trains will be utilized to address the possible influx of passengers amid emergency repairs in the metro’s main thoroughfare.

The repairs are set to be conducted by the Department of Public Works and Highways on portions of the Edsa Bus Carousel — Balintawak to Buendia Avenue — from August 4 to 9 due to damage caused by inclement weather.

In a statement on Friday, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said that 650 traffic enforcers will be deployed to manage traffic flow along the said area as part of its traffic management plan during the repairs.

Artes also said that both motorists and commuters are expected to take the MRT-3 to avoid traffic caused by the repairs.

“Motorists and commuters who will be affected by the one-time, big-time emergency repair are expected to take the trains to avoid the expected traffic build-up at Edsa. Usec. Chavez assured that the MRT is ready for the anticipated influx,” said MMDA acting chair Don Artes.

The Department of Transportation also assured the public that it will also deploy two additional train sets during rush hour when necessary.

“With 24 train sets available, MRT can deploy two or three more train sets if needed to accommodate 450,000 to 500,000 passengers daily with four minutes headway,” Transportation Undersecretary Cesar Chavez told Artes in a meeting earlier Friday.

Artes then reminded motorists to take alternative routes to avoid inconvenience.
