The Land Transportation Office (LTO) clarified that the 60-day deadline for unclaimed license plates was intended for agency officials and motor vehicle dealers and not the motor vehicle owners. The Commission on Audit earlier flagged the LTO and the Department of Transportation, LTO’s mother agency, for failing to produce and deliver a total of 1.8 million pairs of vehicle registration plates. The license plates, according to state auditors, amount to more than P808 million and were paid in 2015 for renewal of registration. —JANE BAUTISTA
