MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced on Wednesday its plan to fully implement the single-ticketing system (STS) and hand-held ticketing devices throughout Metro Manila by September.

“In the entire NCR (National Capital Region), we expect with the delivery of these servers and handheld ticketing devices, we can roll out within this quarter by September to all LGUs (local government units) in the NCR,” said MMDA acting chair Don Artes in a press conference.

Artes announced this date following the turnover of 30 units of hand-held devices to five different local government units — Valenzuela, Caloocan, Muntinlupa, San Juan, and Parañaque.

The handheld ticketing devices have various functions, including printing citation tickets, validating and authenticating driver’s licenses and vehicle registrations, checking demerit points, and verifying if a license or vehicle registration is suspended, canceled, or has an existing alarm.

They can also accept cashless payments for fines, among other features.

Currently, the STS is being implemented in Valenzuela, Caloocan, Muntinlupa, San Juan, Parañaque, and Quezon City, with plans to extend it to the entire Metro Manila.

While the MMDA provided the handheld devices to the five LGUs, Quezon City procured its own devices.

Artes said the MMDA would deliver more devices to other LGUs based on their requests.

“More will be added depending on how many the LGU needs in their request,” said Artes.
