MANILA, Philippines — Two persons were confirmed dead due to Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) and the southwest monsoon or “habagat.”
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported the deaths in its 8 a.m. update on Wednesday.
NDRRMC has received reports attributing to the weather disturbances 27 fatalities, but it is only confirming two fatalities as of this time.
Reports on 25 other deaths are still up for validation, the council said.
Meanwhile, 52 were injured and 13 missing during the height of the typhoon and habagat.
The number of residents displaced reached 289, 713 with 57,740 of them taking shelter in evacuation centers, the agency added.
The calamity victims are in Regions 1 (Ilocos), 2 (Cagayan Valley), 3 (Central Luzon), Mimaropa (Mindoro Oriental and Occidental, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan), Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) and Region 6 (Western Visayas).
Egay and the habagat also destroyed 50,371 houses across the country.
The typhoon and monsoon also damaged 252 roads, 19 bridges, 112 schools, and six government facilities.
On the other hand, the cost of devastation in infrastructure is estimated at over P3.5 billion as of today.
As many as 312 cities or municipalities experienced power outages.
Electricity has been restored in 210 or 67 percent of these areas.
NDRRMC also reported the government had distributed more than P187 million worth of assistance to affected families.
