MANILA, Philippines — An alleged member of a Communist terrorist group (CTG) died in a shootout with authorities in Quezon province last July 30, the police said on Monday.

In a report, the Philippine National Police said that Sariaya Municipal Station (MPS) personnel and other law enforcement agencies were supposed to serve arrest warrants against the suspect in a joint police operation in Barangay Lutucan Malabag, Sariaya.

Police did not identify the suspect but revealed that he was also a member of Sub-Regional Military Area (SRMA) 4C and the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee, among others.

Based on a report from the Quezon Police Provincial Office, police said the armed suspect tried to evade arrest by engaging in a shootout with operating officers.

The brief exchange of fire with authorities resulted in the death of the alleged CTG member,  who was declared dead on arrival at the Candelaria Doctors Hospital.

The suspect arrest warrants for murder were issued by Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 46 of Occidental Mindoro; direct assault upon agents of a person in authority with fixed bail of P12,000 issued by Municipal Trial Court of Rosario, Batangas; arson issued by RTC Branch 83 of Tanauan, Batangas; and violation of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 (Republic Act 11479) issued by RTC Branch 7, Batangas City.
