LUCENA CITY — Two women were found drowned on Tuesday, July 25, in Cardona and Baras towns in Rizal province due to floods triggered by typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri).
The Region 4A police reported on Wednesday that Adelfa Escolano, 71, was found dead at 11 a.m. on Tuesday after her house was swept by a flash flood in Barangay Iglesia in Cardona. Escolano was reported missing on Monday, July 24.
Escolano was sleeping alone inside their house when heavy rains poured around 7:45 p.m. on Monday. The heavy rains triggered a flash flood from the nearby creek and swept away the house with the victim inside.
A search-and-rescue team found her body on the grassy portion of the rice field beside the creek in neighboring Barangay San Roque.
In Baras town, a passing village official found the body of Delisa Largo floating around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Laguna de Bay near Kasarinlan Park in Barangay Santiago.
Police reported that before her death, Largo went to the place to gather “kangkong” (water spinach) to sell, her source of income.
Police recorded her death as a drowning incident.
