MANILA, Philippines — A security guard at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) earned praises for his honesty after returning baggage containing over P1.9 million worth of cash and jewelry.

Department of Transportation (DOTr) reported on Tuesday that security guard Mahmud Mastul found the unattended baggage at the arrival area of Naia Terminal 1 on July 21.

He immediately relayed the situation to the Airport Police Department of Manila International Airport Authority (Miaa) and the Philippine National Police – Aviation Security Group.

Authorities turned over the baggage to Miaa’s lost and found section.

The personnel then contacted the owner, Miguel Carpio.

Carpio returned to the airport to claim his belongings.

Miaa Officer-in-Charge Bryan Co commended the 34-year-old security guard.

Mastul has been working with Naia since 2016.

“Mr. Mastul’s display of honesty by promptly reporting the incident not only sets a good example to his colleagues but also proves that our efforts to promote integrity and professionalism among airport workers are gaining ground from all levels of service,” Co said in a statement.
