Unbeaten pugs dispute superfly title today
TWO unbeaten boxers will wage war today in the island of Mactan for the Philippine superflyweight championship.
Defending champion Marvin Mabait (16W-0L-2D,10 KOs) of Zamboanga City is all set for his first title defense against Marco Demecillo Singwangcha (15W-0L-1D, 11KOs) of the Rex “Wakee” Salud Stable in the 12-round main event.
Mabait stepped in at the division limit of 115lbs while Singwangcha weighed 113lbs.
Mabait has trained at the Penalosa boxing stable while Demecillo-Singwangcha has sparred with Japanese WBA world bantamweight champion Koki Kameda at the RSW Gym in Labangon. He uses the surname Singwangcha to honor his sponsor, Thai boxing patron Naris Singwangcha.
RWS gym trainer Juanito Ablaca told CDN after yesterday’s weigh-in that he is a bit cautious about Demecillo-Singwangcha’s chances.
“I would consider our boxer to be the underdog. Mabait is an excellent boxer and has a high skill level. But Marco is in very good shape and trained hard for this fight. This will be a difficult fight for us. We will give it our best,” said Ablaca.
