TWO unbeaten boxers will wage war today in the island of Mactan for the Philippine superflyweight championship.

Defending champion Marvin Mabait (16W-0L-2D,10 KOs) of Zamboanga City is all set for his first title defense against Marco Demecillo Singwangcha (15W-0L-1D, 11KOs) of the Rex “Wakee” Salud Stable in the 12-round main event.

Mabait stepped in at the division limit of 115lbs while Singwangcha weighed 113lbs.

Mabait has trained at the Penalosa boxing stable while Demecillo-Singwangcha has sparred with Japanese WBA world bantamweight champion Koki Kameda at the RSW Gym in Labangon. He uses the surname Singwangcha to honor his sponsor, Thai boxing patron Naris Singwangcha.

RWS gym trainer Juanito Ablaca told CDN after yesterday’s weigh-in that he is a bit cautious about Demecillo-Singwangcha’s chances.

“I would consider our boxer to be the underdog. Mabait is an excellent boxer and has a high skill level. But Marco is in very good shape and trained hard for this fight. This will be a difficult fight for us. We will give it our best,” said Ablaca.

Today’s fight card billed as “Kadaugan sa Maktan” will be held at the Mactan Shrine in Lapu-Lapu City and offered free to the public. The event is sponsored by Mayor Paz Radaza and Congressman Arturo Radaza.

The undercards pit Fernando Ocon vs. Jay-R Estremos (10 rounds), Marlou Sandoval Singwangcha vs. Jonathan Ricablanca (8 rds), Jayson Redondo Singwangcha vs. Jayvee Alipio (8 rds), Rajah Renoel Pael vs. Joel Ventual (8 rds), Rodel Wenceslao vs. Sesustener Llanera Singwangcha (6 rds), Junior Salvador vs. Lyndel Radoc Singwangcha (6 rds), Ardie Boyosi vs.  Ranel Pasunting (4 rds) and Junmar Sahay vs. Kenny Demecillo (4 rds).
