Typhoon Egay:  Signal No. 2 up in 8 areas, Signal No. 1 in Metro Manila

MANILA, Philippines – State meteorologists on Monday hoisted Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) Number 2 in eight areas.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila is under Wind Signal Number 1.

Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) has gained strength, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in its 11 a.m. bulletin.

Moving westward slowly, the center of Egay is currently 525 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora, packing maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour (kph) with a gustiness of 185 kph.

Egay’s current forecast, with maximum winds of 140 kph and 170 kph gusts, is stronger than before.

Pagasa said Egay is predicted to intensify further and may reach the super typhoon category by late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

Here are the areas under TCWS Number 2, where winds greater than 62 kilometers per hour (kph) and up to 88 kph may be expected in at least 24 hours.
