MANILA, Philippines — Protesters have begun marching along Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City, ahead of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s second State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Monday.
Dozens of groups earlier gathered in front of technoHub in the same area to stage what they dubbed the “People’s Sona.”
The demonstrators included Bayan, Karapatan and Anakbayan.
A program was held during the gathering.
At around 10:30 a.m., the protesters set aflame the effigy showing the image of the President.
They dubbed it “doble-kara.”
Then, they started marching.
As of noon time, the protesters are headed toward Tandang Sora, in front of St. Peter’s Chapel.
The marchers are seeking higher wages, food security, and an end to alleged police and military violence, as well as the abolition of the recently-passed law on the Maharlika Investment Fund.
