7.6-foot saltwater crocodile rescued in Zamboanga del Sur town

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur — A 7.6-foot long saltwater crocodile was rescued Friday in Lapuyan town, Zamboanga del Sur.

Pacifico Cabrido Jr. of the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) in Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur, said they received a report of the presence of a saltwater crocodile in Barangay Pampang and immediately deployed rescuers to trap it.

When captured, the reptile was brought to the Wildlife Rescue Center in Baklay village of Tukuran town.

The rescuers applied first aid to the reptile after seeing injuries on its body.

A Cenro team was still investigating where the crocodile could have come from and how it got into Pampang.

Cabrido said there were few sightings of saltwater crocodiles mostly in the mangrove areas in some municipalities of the province.

In the past, a few were rescued by DENR personnel with the cooperation of the local residents.
