Pagasa: Cloudy Sunday with a chance of rain; LPA expected to enter PAR

MANILA, Philippines — Cloudy skies and scattered rain showers will prevail in most parts of the country due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), while the low-pressure area (LPA) east of Mindanao may enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) within the day, the state weather bureau said on Sunday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), in its early morning bulletin, said the ITCZ will specifically affect southern Luzon as well as the Visayas, and Mindanao.

“Maulap na kalangitan at kalat kalat na pagulan, pagkidlat at pagkulog pa rin ang mararansan dito sa bahagi ng Mimaropa (Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan) maging sa Bicol region at lalawigan ng Quezon,” Pagasa weather specialist Grace Castañeda said.

(Cloudy skies and scattered rain showers, lightning, and thunder will still be experienced here in the Mimaropa and Bicol regions and the province of Quezon.)

“Samantala dito sa Metro manila at nalalabing bahagi ng Luzon magiging bahagyang maulap hanggang maulap ang kalangitan,” she added.

(It will be partly cloudy to cloudy in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.)

LPA alert!

Castañeda also reported that the LPA last spotted some 995 kilometers east-northeast of Mindanao and expected to enter PAR Sunday may intensify into a tropical cyclone in the next two to three days.

Meanwhile, no gale warnings were raised over any of the country’s seaboards.
