MANILA, Philippines — Detainee Jose Adrian Dera or “Jad” was out Tuesday evening for medical reasons, his lawyer Raymond Palad said.

Palad explained that his client told him that there was a permission for him to go out Tuesday evening for medical reasons.

“They are using an NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) marked vehicle,” Palad said, adding that his client cannot go out of detention escorted by NBI security without permission from the one in charge of the detention.

“I asked him, ano ba talaga nangyari? He said galing sila sa labas kabababa lang nila sa isang [He said they just stepped out of the] NBI marked vehicle [when the arrest was made],” Palad said adding that they were already inside the NBI compound when the arrest was made.

Palad also denied a report that Dera was carrying P25-million for the suspects in the killing of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo and that he was the “bagman” of Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr.

“Nung una pamangkin daw sya ni [former senator Leila] de Lima, ngayon naman bagman ni Cong. Teves, hindi totoo yon,” he said.

(Before, he was mentioned as de Lima’s nephew; now, he is the bagman of Cong. Teves. They are not true.)
