MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed David Andrew Lizares Sanson as Sugar Regulatory Administration’s (SRA) acting member representing the sugar planters.
The appointment letter was dated June 15, 2023, but was released to the media on Wednesday.
“Pursuant to the provision of existing laws, you are hereby appointed acting member, representing the sugar planters, sugar board, Sugar regulatory administration, vice David Thaddeus P. Alba,” Marcos Jr. wrote to Sanson on June 15.
The SRA is an attached corporation of the Department of Agriculture, which is headed by the President. It is mandated with developing the sugar industry with the participation of the private sector.
The government corporation has been tagged with numerous anomalous sugar imports, however. Sen. Risa Hontiveros has previously condemned the alleged state-sponsored sugar smuggling.
