MANILA, Philippines — A 26-year-old man was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Bacolod City, and over P5 million worth of suspected crystal meth or “shabu” was seized by the authorities, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Monday.
According to PNP, operatives of the Bacolod City Police Office’s (BCPO) Station Drug Enforcement Team (SDET) conducted a buy-bust operation in Purok Villa Lourdes, Barangay Pahanocoy, which led to the arrest of suspect Rene Lapera Jr., also known as “Ombap,” last June 18.
Confiscated from Lapera were 800 grams or 18 plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, amounting to P5,440,000. Other evidence recovered from the suspect were a digital weighing scale, a sling bag, and buy-bust money.
“A tactical interrogation of the suspect is currently underway to gather additional information regarding the source of the illegal drugs, as well as any potential links and accomplices,” the PNP said in a statement.
It added that the interrogation results will aid the planning of follow-up operations “to dismantle the drug network responsible for endangering the safety and well-being of the community.”
