Motorcycle passenger dead, driver injured in Batangas City road crash

LUCENA CITY – A motorcycle back-rider died and another person was injured in a road accident in Batangas City shortly before midnight on Friday, the local police reported on Saturday.
The Batangas police reported that the motorcycle with passenger John Flemming Sacdalan, 23, and driver Ryan Mercado, 22, hit the vehicle driven by Michael De Ocampo, 36, who was making a left turn along the diversion road in Barangay (village) Bolbok at around 11:30 p.m.
The two riders sustained injuries and were taken to Batangas Medical Center where Sacdalan was declared dead at 12:19 a.m. Saturday.
The police are conducting further investigation.
It was not indicated in the police report whether or not the fatality was wearing a crash helmet for protection as mandated under the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.
