DIGOS CITY, Davao del Sur, Philippines – A light truck carrying a heavy load of coconut lumber fell into a ditch in Toril District in Davao City on Sunday afternoon, injuring its driver and four passengers, including a 10-month-old baby.
Maj. Jonnel Bonguyan, chief of the Toril Police Station, said that the truck came from Barangay Sibulan of nearby Santa Cruz town.
While traversing Barangay Baracatan at past 4 p.m., driver Virgil Ramohal said the brakes of his truck malfunctioned causing him to lose control of it.
Apart from Ramohal, also injured were Charity Abella, 19, and the 10-month-old baby who were seated in the cab; Alexander Millan, 24, and Allen Concepcion, 20. The last three were seated at the back of the truck.
Emergency responders from the Davao Central 911 immediately arrived on the scene and transported the truck driver and passengers to the Southern Philippines Medical Center.
