5 dead, 5 others hurt in road crash in Palawan
PUERTO PRINCESA CITY — Five people died while five others were injured in a vehicular accident on the national highway in Brooke’s Point town in Palawan province on Saturday night (May 20), a police report said.
The accident occurred in Barangay (village) Malis at around 7:50 p.m. and involved a Yamaha motorcycle driven by Gabriel Suay, 19, with back rider Jenny Boy Marcos, 20, and a top-down tricycle, according to the report released Sunday.
Aboard the tricycle were driver Nelio Ame, 23, and his passengers Louie Jay Abis, 22; Zera Adonis, 18; Venny Dubria, 28; Rey Jeven Longgageng, 19; Dorothy Joy Vidal; and two other minors aged 16 and 17 years old, all residents of Brooke’s Point.
Investigators from Brooke’s Point police said Suay and Marcos came from Barangay Samariñana and were on their way to Malis while the tricycle was on the opposite side of the highway and on the way to Poblacion.
Upon reaching Malis village, the motorcycle went to the opposite lane which led to the head-on collision.
Article continues after this advertisementSuay, Abis, Adonis, and Longgaeng were taken to Southern Palawan Provincial Hospital in Brooke’s Point but all died on the way there.
Article continues after this advertisementMeanwhile, the 17-year-old was also declared dead on arrival at the Bataraza District Hospital.
The wounded are still receiving treatment.
The vehicles involved were brought to Brooke’s Point police station for custody and proper disposition. GERALDFORD TICKE
