MANILA, Philippines — Imelda Marcos, former First Lady and mother of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., is “recovering well” after undergoing angioplasty, her daughter Senator Imee Marcos said Thursday.

“My mother Mrs. Imelda R. Marcos underwent a successful angioplasty last May 7 at St. Luke’s Medical Center Global City. [She] is recovering well and will be sent home this week,” Imee said in a message confirmed by her office.

In March, murmurs about the death of the 93-year-old Marcos matriarch were silenced after Imee and Imelda’s niece Eliza Romualdez-Valtos denied the rumors.

Even before that, then Bacoor Mayor Lani Revilla erroneously tweeted about Imelda’s death in 2017 as she expressed condolences to the family of the widow of late dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

Revilla then deleted her post, apologized in a separate tweet, and later claimed her account was hacked.

Imelda also reacted to Revilla’s social media mess, saying, “Still alive. I’m just old.”

Imelda is convicted of seven counts of graft for transferring $200 million to seven Swiss foundations when she was a government official from 1968 to 1986.

She was sentenced to six to 11 years in prison for each count of graft. The Sandiganbayan Fifth Division also ordered her arrest and directed her to explain her absence at the promulgation of the decision in 2018.

But the police did not make a move to arrest Imelda, citing her health and age.
