MAN STABS SELF
A 28-YEAR-OLD truck helper stabbed himself in front of his wife in their house in barangay El Pardo, Boljoon town, soutern Cebu.
Police said the man was drunk at the time and upset over family problems when he came home drunk past 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
The man went to the kitchen to eat but his 17-year-old girlfriend told him that there was no food. The couple has a two-month-old daughter.
The man bought food from a store and continued ranting when he returned home.
He suddenly took a six-inch knife and stabbed himself in the body.
The woman stopped him from injuring himself further and sought help from neighbors.
The man was brought to the Alcoy Rural Health Center and was later moved to a Cebu City hospital./CORRESPONDENT RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL
VINTAGE BOMB FOUND
A TWO-FOOT vintage bomb was found in barangay Cansojong, Talisay City, southern Cebu.
The unexploded World War II ordnance was found outside the house of Dr. Makaraig Canton on Thursday.
Police said his 15-year-old helper Shane Base was digging a pit for dry leaves when he found the rusty metallic object.
Out of curiosity, the helper took a hammer and started hitting the object.
The bomb didn’t explode.
Another helper identified only as Joey asked his co-worker not to touch the explosive.
Joey turned over the bomb to the Fisheries Sea Ecological Care (FISECA) headquarters beside Canton’s house.
The bomb was turned over to the bomb disposal unit of the Cebu Provincial Police Office.
