Quezon and East Avenue subway stations begin construction — DOTr

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Friday kicked off the construction of two more underground subway stations with a groundbreaking ceremony.

The Quezon Avenue and East Avenue underground subway stations in Quezon City are part of the Metro Manila Subway Project. DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista said that the two stations are targeted to begin operation by 2028.

“The whole subway will connect with different railway networks, such as LRT 1, MRT 3, MRT 7, and the Grand Common station. It will also connect with LRT 2 at Anonas Station. It will also connect with two stations of the North-South Commuter Rail. We expect the subway to be operational by 2028,” said Bautista during the ceremony.

He also said that apart from providing comfortable and convenient transport, this project will also create job opportunities for Filipinos.

“The subway will not only provide comfort and convenience but also generate jobs. It will definitely be comfortable, affordable, safe, sustainable, and accessible,” he added.

DOTr said that trips to and from Valenzuela City and Ninoy Aquino International Airport would be reduced to 45 minutes compared to the usual trip of one hour and 10 minutes, saving at least 25 minutes.

The transportation agency also noted that this subway can accommodate approximately 519,000 passengers daily.

The contract package, which covers Quezon Avenue and East Avenue stations, was awarded to Nishimatsu Construction Co. Ltd. and D.M. Consunji Inc. — Maria Liezl Projella, trainee
