Stones thrown in Talisay demolition
Stones and bottles were thrown at a demolition team but the court-ordered removal of structures in a lot claimed by lawyer Sesbreño pushed through yesterday in barangay Lawaan-3, Talisay City, southern Cebu.
No one was hurt but a multicab was damaged when it was hit by a rock.
Sheriff Constancio Alimurong with an 11-member demolition team, arrived past 10 a.m. yesterday with a writ of demolition issued by Judge Gilbert Moises of the Regional Trial Court Branch 18.
Talisay Ccity policemen were also present.
The writ covered a house and two structures used as junkshops owned by Efren Orros.
Orros and his allies in a a group called Kinatas-ang Kahugpungan sa Kapupudan-an Datu Alimaong led by Datu Timog opposed the demolition, insisting that the case was still pending court action and that the writ of demolition was not final.
The demolition was stopped for a few minutes when the court sheriff and Orros had a heated argument.
Supt. Eddie Recamara, chief of the Talisay police, arrived and tried to restore order.
No arrests were made.
The demolition resumed. Orros again confronted a member of the demolition team who tried to tear down the gate of his house. Police pacified the two men.
At one point, Orros suddenly rushed into his house as if he was looking for something.
Thinking that Orros would get a firearm, policemen and news reporters sought cover.
Orros emerged from his house unarmed. He left bringing his child to his grandparents’ house.
The sheriff said the demolition will resume today for three other shanties built on the 1,000-square meter lot in barangay Lawaan 3.
Police chief Recamara said his men would use maximum tolerance to avoid any violence.
He said he was upset at the Sesbreños after Peter Lim Sesbreño, son of the lawyer, accused him of being partisan when they arrested SFO1 Ramiro Sesbreño for brandishing his firearm following a confrontation in the disputed lot last Sunday. /CORRESPONDENT GABRIEL C.BONJOC
