MANILA, Philippines — The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Friday reported four vehicular accidents relating to Holy Week celebrations.
According also to the NDRRMC’s latest report on Holy Week, there have been seven reported illnesses or injuries, either due to vehicular accidents or food poisoning.
One of the four vehicular accidents involving a big bike and a sidecar or “kurong-kurong” in Santa Lucia, Ilocos Sur. Five teenagers were implicated in the accident but only had minor scratches from the incident, said the NDRRMC.
The NDRRMC also reported a kalesa in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, damaged while touring people. Frontliners were able to assist the tourists.
Other vehicular accidents were reported in Maramag, Bukidnon and Tagudin, Ilocos Sur.
Meanwhile, the reported case of food poisoning occurred in Lopez Jaena, Misamis Occidental. A total of six children experienced “abdominal pain related to food poisoning” after eating sunflower seeds, said the NDRRMC.
The children were brought to a nearby hospital for treatment and later sent back home.
Government authorities have expected an influx of travelers nationwide due to the long holiday.
The NDRRMC implored the public to stay safe during the Lenten season.
“As our nation solemnly observes the Holy Week, keep in mind the safety of our families and homes. Check the vehicles you will use when you travel, list emergency hotlines in your destination, secure your homes, and stay safe,” said NDRRMC Executive Director Usec. Ariel Nepomuceno.
