LRTA, MRT start repairs as train operations halted during Holy Week
MANILA, Philippines — Both the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) have started line maintenance while train operations are suspended for the Holy Week.
In a series of photos shared on Maundy Thursday, the LRTA showed their crew checking the track of LRT-2 which runs from Recto Station in Manila to Cubao in Quezon City and then toward the eastern side of the greater Manila area in Antipolo City, Rizal.
Photos posted on LRT-2’s Twitter page also featured technicians replacing engine belts in train car doors to ensure they open and close safely.

Rail grinding and welding works near the LRT-2 Cubao Station and plate removal between its Cubao and Anonas Stations were likewise captured in pictures.

Repairs were also being done on the power source between sections of Legarda and Pureza Stations and Legarda and Recto Stations.
“Kasalukuyang nagsasagawa ng annual maintenance ang LRT2 Engineering at Maintenance Team sa Overhead Catenary System (OCS), kabilang dito ang pagpapalit ng contact wire mula Pureza hanggang Legarda at Recto reversing. Ang OCS ay siyang ngbibigay ng kuryente sa tren mula sa Rectifier Substation,” the LRTA noted.
(LRT-2’s Engineering and Maintenance Team are currently doing annual maintenance of the Overhead Catenary System, including replacing contact wires from Pureza up to Legarda and Recto, and vice versa. The OCS brings electricity to the train cars from the Rectifier Substation.)

Similarly, the LRT-1 and MRT-3 have previously announced the conduct of maintenance works on their lines and tracks during the suspension of operations from April 6-9, or Maundy Thursday until Easter Sunday.
The LRT-1 line traverses Quezon City, Caloocan City, Manila, and Pasay City – from Roosevelt Station to Baclaran Station.
The MRT-3 line, meanwhile, is along Edsa, starting from the North Avenue Station in Quezon City to Taft Avenue Station in Manila.
As for the Philippine National Railways, cleanup and repair activities in all its stations in Metro Manila and nearby regions have likewise begun.
All rail transportation are expected to resume operations on Monday, April 10. With reports from Aliah Gumasing, trainee
