MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Monday said all its personnel and stations would be on heightened alert from March 31 to April 10 to ensure the public’s and motorists’ safety during the Holy Week and summer break.
According to LTO chief Jay Art Tugade, their “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Semana Santa and Summer Vacation 2023” will focus on overall road safety, including roadworthiness inspections of public utility vehicles (PUVs) and inspections on land transport terminals.
“Wala kaming hangad sa LTO kundi ang masigurong mairaraos nang maayos at ligtas ang Holy Week at bakasyon ng ating mga kababayan,” he said in a statement.
(We, in the LTO, have no desire but to ensure that the Holy Week and the vacation of our compatriots would be peaceful and safe.)
“Hinihingi rin namin ang pakikiisa ng publiko sa pag-iingat at pagsunod sa mga batas-trapiko para sa biyaheng ayos ngayong taon,” he added.
(We also ask for the public’s cooperation in carefully obeying traffic laws for smooth travel this year.)
Tugade said the LTP would monitor all strategic locations and land transport terminals in all country regions and conduct random drug tests among PUV drivers and conductors.
He then warned that the LTO will strictly enforce its mandate under Republic Act 4136 or the “Land Transportation and Traffic Code” and will not hesitate to apprehend motorists violating the rules.
In line with this, Tugade said a seminar for PUV drivers and conductors is scheduled on Tuesday, March 28, as part of the LTO’s campaign on overall road safety.
