Cebuano whiz kids open bids in National Age Group Chess

SOME of Cebu’s best and youngest woodpushers compete in the final leg of the National Age Group Chess Tournament in Kalibo, Aklan.

One week after the qualifying leg held at the Cebu City Sports Center, Cebu City came up with a  formidable lineup of young wood pushers to compete against some of the country’s best.

Spearheading the Cebu City roster are woodpushers from the University of San Carlos University-Basic Education Department (USC-BED) headed by coach and FIDE arbiter Felix Poloyapoy.

USC BED is composed of Rhenzi Kyle Sevillano, Ryan Fernando, Jeffo Durog , Ryan Pacris and Jeremy Pepito in the U-14 category and Jazzelle Villarin in the U-16. Airene Robillos will compete in the U-20 category.

FEATURED STORIES

Regina Catherine Quinanola, Jasia Dorog and Vladimir James Robillos will compete in the U-8 category.

Participants in the U-10 category are Glesit Marie Tatoy, Alphard and Alphecca Gonzales.

Duane Borgonia, James Fernando Diloy, James Andrew Balbona, Cherry Mae Caballes and Chris Aldritz and Christian Pondoyo will fight in the U-12 category.

John Francis Balbona will be the representative in the U-16 category.

Allan Pason is expected to be the top contender in the U-16 category along with teammates Keith Claire Carisle Morala, Felix Shaun Balbona and Diego Claro.
