Pagasa: Parts of northern Luzon to see cloudy skies, rain due to northeast monsoon

Pagasa says cloudy skies and rain will prevail over parts of northern Luzon on Saturday due to the northeast monsoon

MANILA, Philippines — Overcast skies and rain will prevail over parts of northern Luzon on Saturday due to the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Specifically, Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora can expect rain, according to the state weather bureau.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon are also being affected by the northeast monsoon although with “no significant impact,” Pagasa added.

“Patuloy na umiiral ang northeast monsoon o amihan dito sa bahagi ng Luzon kung saan ngayong araw, dala pa rin nito ang maulap na kalangitan at pag-ulan sa ilang bahagi yan ng northern Luzon,” said Pagasa weather specialist Grace Castañeda.

(The northeast monsoon or amihan continues to exists in this part of Luzon where today, it still brings cloudy skies and rain in some parts of northern Luzon.)

Localized thunderstorm, meanwhile, will cause cloudy skies with chances of isolated rain to the rest of the country, Pagasa noted.

State weather service likewise raised a gale warning over the seaboards of Batanes, Cagayan and the Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan due to winds brought about by the northeast monsoon. It advised fisherfolks in these areas to avoid sailing.

As for the temperature ranges in key cities or areas across the country on Saturday, Pagasa issued the following:

  • Metro Manila: 24 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Baguio City: 14 to 24 degrees Celsius
  • Laoag City:  24 to 29 degrees Celsius
  • Tuguegarao: 23 to 29 degrees Celsius
  • Legazpi City: 24 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Puerto Princesa City: 25 to 34 degrees Celsius
  • Tagaytay: 20 to 29 degrees Celsius
  • Kalayaan Islands: 26 to 33 degrees Celsius
  • Iloilo City: 25 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Cebu: 25 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Tacloban City: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Cagayan De Oro City: 23 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Zamboanga City: 24 to 34 degrees Celsius
  • Davao City: 24 to 33 degrees Celsius
