MANILA, Philippines — The voter turnout in the special election for the representative of Cavite’s seventh legislative district will likely not exceed 60 percent, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

“Based on our experience at the Comelec, the voter turnout is not that high during special elections and plebiscites,” Comelec Chair George Garcia said on Sunday.

“We would be lucky if we reach 60 percent to 70 percent at most in voter turnout,” he continued.

The congressional seat became vacant after Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, who won uncontested on May 9, accepted his appointment from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Remulla’s son is among the four candidates who will vie for the vacated seat along with Jose Angelito Aguinaldo, Melencio De Sagun Jr., and Michael Angelo Santos.
