Comelec: Cavite 7th district special polls will be automated

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday announced that the special elections for the province of Cavite’s 7th district Congressional seat, scheduled for Feb. 25, will be automated.

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday announced that the special elections for the province of Cavite’s 7th district Congressional seat, scheduled for Feb. 25, will be automated.

Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said this during a press conference, revealing that automated elections will be conducted in the said special polls.

“So kami po ay handang mag imprenta ng balota na automated, gagamit po ng vote-counting machines dito po sa 7th District ng Cavite,” he added.

It can be recalled that the said district’s congressional seat was vacated by Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla.

According to Laudiangco, candidates may then start filing their certificates of candidacy as early as December 5.

Meanwhile, in the same press briefing, Laudiangco announced that the plebiscite to determine whether the municipality of Baliuag, Bulacan will become a component city will be held from Dec. 17 to 24.

Laudiangco earlier announced that voter registration will resume on Dec. 12, 2022 until Jan. 31, 2023.

Overseas voter registration, on the other hand, will be held starting December 9, 2022, while overseas voting will be conducted starting April 30, 2025.
